Coronavirus (COVID-19) information

At Parklands Community Church we take the welfare of our church family and community seriously. We are monitoring the advice provided by Public Health England and the church-specific advice provided by the Baptist Union of Great Britain

At the moment there are no restrictions on public gatherings that would limit our church activities. As such we will continue to meet together on Sundays at 11am as usual.

However, we are also taking extra precautions to help keep everyone healthy.

  • We are asking that everyone wash their hands as they enter The Radio Wing and use the antibacterial hand gel provided too.
  • Whilst we always aim to be a friendly church, at the moment we’re encouraging people not to greet each other with handshakes or hugs – a smile and a wave will do.
  • We will not use shared cups or loaves when taking communion
  • We will ensure extra cleaning takes place, especially on door handles etc.

Most importantly, we’re asking everyone in our community to follow the advice provided by Public Health England.

  • If you have a new continuous cough and/or a high temperature, please stay at home and self-isolate for 7 days. If your symptoms worsen or you are no better after 7 days, contact NHS 111 online
  • Wash your hands more than usual, for 20 seconds using soap and hot water.
  • When you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue and throw it away immediately. If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve, not your hand.

We believe that we can live and act as family, even when we’re not gathered together. If you do have to self-isolate, we still want to offer support and care. Whether you need help with your shopping, or a chat on the phone, or prayer, we’re here. You can get in touch with us at prayer.parklandscc@gmail.com

We will continue to follow guidance set out by Public Health England and will adapt our meetings and events accordingly.

Advent Windows are back

December 1st marks the start of Advent – the time in the church calendar where we prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas! To celebrate this time, we have again organised Advent Windows for Flowerdown Park and Locking Parklands.

Every evening from December 1st to the 24th, a new window will be revealed, just like a real-life advent calendar only without the chocolate (or cheese, gin, or makeup if you have one of those fancy advent calendars), and they will stay up until after Christmas.

You can pick up a hard copy of the maps at our Parklands Pop-Up Cafe on 7th December, the Family Film Night on 13th December, or at the Carol and Christingle Service on 21st December.

Alternatively, you can download an electronic version of the maps here:

Join in The Big Quiz Night

Join us on Saturday 16th November as we join with churches across the UK in hosting Tearfund’s The Big Quiz Night.  In 2018, 500 churches and 23,000 people took part in the quiz, and this year we want to be a part of making it even bigger.

Entry is £4 per person or £20 for a team of six, and includes a free hot drink and doughnut. Other refreshments are available to buy on the night, or bring your own. Get your neighbours, friends and family together to form a team and let’s have some healthy competition! Who will be the winner?

Join our Facebook Event for the latest updates, and email claire.parklandscc@gmail.com to reserve your space.

Cafe shares some autumn colour

It may have been chilly and grey outside, but today (October 12th) in The Radio Wing there were the burnt oranges and reds of autumn as kids of all ages tried their hands at leaf-related crafts at the October Parklands Pop-Up Cafe.

Those who weren’t feeling crafty enjoyed some fantastic home made cake and Fairtrade teas and coffees. If you couldn’t make it to this month’s cafe, the next Parklands Pop-Up Cafe is on Saturday 16th November, 10am-noon in The Radio Wing.

Rubbing

First Parklands film night

With the church about to begin looking at the story of Moses in its Sunday Gatherings, we are putting on the first Parklands Family Film Night to get together and watch the 1998 Dreamworks classic, The Prince of Egypt.

Come on down to The Radio Wing on Friday 6th September for a free night of entertainment, with hot drinks and popcorn provided. The doors open at 6.15pm, with the feature presentation starting at 6.30pm.

Getting crafty for the dads

Join us at The Radio Wing on Saturday 15 June from 10am to Noon for the March Parklands Pop Up Cafe. This is a space for people from the community to get to know each other over a cuppa. There’ll also be cakes and cookies available as well as some Father’s Day Craft activities for children.

‘Thy Kingdom Come’ is coming

Starting from this coming Thursday (30th May) and for the following eleven days we will be joining with churches across the world in praying Thy Kingdom Come. We will be sharing the theme of the day via our Facebook page, so please get involved and #Pledge2Pray your thoughts and prayers as part of this global prayer movement.

Whether you have joined in Thy Kingdom Come before or not, we invite you to take part this year – along with churches from over 65 different denominations in 114 countries around the world.

Why not come on down to our weekly gathering at The Radio Wing at 11am on Sunday morning and pick up a prayer journal, or download the Thy Kingdom Come daily prayer app from either the App Store or the Play Store.
